Working with John Nathaniel was one of the craziest whirlwinds I’ve ever experienced. I got the opportunity to work with this amazing producer last March, and within THREE DAYS, “Cold Right Now” was complete. Yes, three days. I can barely believe it…and I was there!
Working with John is comparable to working with a mad scientist. He’s frantic, in the absolute best way you can imagine, and has an incredible energy about him that’s contagious. His hands fly across his keyboard, triggering sounds, all while humming to himself. It’s truly amazing to watch. You can’t help but be in a good mood when you’re working with him, because he’s always cracking jokes, making sounds of some kind, or just generally having a blast. John is the perfect example of someone I believe was born to be a producer. He hears things differently than the rest of us, and has enough energy to rival a five year old. Working on “Cold Right Now” with John was easily one of the highlights of my career so far.
“Cold Right Now” was one of those songs that as soon as we wrote the chorus, we knew we had something we could rally behind. His absolute genius made me work harder and strive to be the best I could be. There were some points in studio where I felt like giving up because I couldn’t get the sound I wanted, but John always encouraged me, so I picked myself up and tried again. And voila, “Cold Right Now” was born. I always felt very welcome working with John and can’t wait to work with him again one day.
Also his wife (Marianne) is the sweetest lady you’ll ever meet. And his adorable dog kept us company in the studio (even though I’m allergic—thanks for the allergy meds John!!)
